Pare

Privacy policy

Effective 16 July 2026 · Last updated 16 July 2026

Pare helps you understand and change your relationship with alcohol, cannabis, or nicotine. What you write in Pare is private by design. Everything you author is encrypted on your device before it reaches our servers, with a key we never hold. We cannot read your entries, and we do not sell, rent, or share your data. There are no ads, no trackers, and no analytics.

Who we are

Pare is provided by StudioSof ("Pare", "we", "us"). If you have any question about your privacy or this policy, you can reach us at privacy@studiosof.com. This policy explains what data Pare handles, why, and the choices you have.

The short version

What we collect and why

Your account

To save your entries privately and let you sign in on a new phone, you create an account with an email address and a password. Your email is used to sign you in and to help you recover access to your account. Your password is used two ways: it signs you in, and it becomes the key that unlocks your encrypted data. We never store your password, and we cannot see it or reset it. If you forget it, your recovery code is the only way back in.

Your first name

You can add your first name so the app can greet you. Your name is encrypted on your device before it is saved, in the same way as your other entries. It is stored in a form we cannot read, and it is decrypted only on your own device to show you your name.

Your entries

This is everything you record in Pare: your substance check-ins and their details, moods, cravings, journal entries, goals, habits, challenges, and any letters, plans, or contacts you save. The content of every one of these is encrypted on your device before it is sent to our servers, using AES-256-GCM encryption with a key only you hold.

So the app can show you your history and progress, a small amount of non-content information is stored in readable form on the server. This never includes what you wrote. It is limited to things like:

Stored readableWhy
Which substance a log is about (for example alcohol, cannabis, nicotine, other)To group and total your logs by substance
The date of a log, check-in, habit tick, or challenge dayTo place entries on your timeline and count progress
A standard-units count and whether a day was over, close, or within your goalTo show trends and goal progress
Category tags for a goal, habit, or challenge, and whether it is active or archivedTo organise your active items
Your countryTo show the right regional health guidelines

The sensitive specifics inside each entry, such as exact amounts, strengths, context, and anything you type, stay encrypted and unreadable to us.

Your subscription

If you subscribe to Pare Premium, we store whether your subscription is active and when it renews or expires, so the app knows what to unlock. Payment is handled by Apple, and subscription status is managed through RevenueCat (see below). We do not receive or store your card details, and your subscription is linked only to an anonymous account identifier, never to your name or email.

How your data is protected

When you create your account, Pare generates a unique encryption key for you on your device. That key encrypts everything you author, and it is protected by your password and by a one-time recovery code. The key is stored securely on your device (in the iOS Keychain or Android Keystore) and, in a form that only your password or recovery code can unlock, on our server so you can restore your data on a new phone.

Because the key is derived from a password and a recovery code that we never see, we have no way to read your entries, and neither does anyone who might access our servers. This is what "end-to-end encrypted" means here. It also means the trade is real: if you lose both your password and your recovery code, your encrypted data cannot be recovered by anyone, including us.

What stays on your device

Some information never leaves your phone:

Who we share data with

We do not sell or rent your data, and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers ("processors") that are necessary to run the app. They only ever receive what the table below describes.

ProviderPurposeWhat they receive
Supabase (hosting, sign-in, and database) Stores your account and your encrypted entries so you can sign in across devices Your email and sign-in details, plus your encrypted entries and the non-content information listed above
RevenueCat (subscriptions, iOS) Manages your Premium subscription status An anonymous account identifier and your subscription status only. No name, no email.
Apple (payments) Processes your Premium purchase through the App Store Your purchase, handled entirely by Apple under Apple's own privacy policy. We do not receive your payment details.

What we do not do

To be clear about the things many apps do that Pare does not:

How long we keep your data

We keep your account and your encrypted entries for as long as you have an account, so your history is there when you return. When you ask us to delete your account, we delete your entries and account data from our systems. Backups are cleared on a rolling basis shortly afterward. Information kept only on your device is removed when you delete the app.

Your choices and rights

Because your entries are encrypted, much of your data is already in your hands alone. You can also:

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the EU and UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to certain uses. We honour these requests. To make one, contact us at privacy@studiosof.com. We do not use your information for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell it.

Children

Pare is intended for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Where your data is stored

Your encrypted data is stored on servers operated by our hosting provider. If you use Pare from outside the country where those servers are located, your data may be processed there. Wherever it is stored, your entries remain encrypted and unreadable to us.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top and, for meaningful changes, let you know in the app. Continuing to use Pare after a change means you accept the updated policy.
